Why I love Lateral Lunges!

Stand with feet together, hand clasped in front of chest.

Take a large step out to the left and immediately sink hips back and bend left knee to lower into a lunge.  Keep right leg SSTRAIGHT but NOT LOCKED, both feet pointing forward.

Push through left foot to straighten left leg, step left foot next to right, and return to starting position.

By mixing the LATERAL LUNGE into your routine, you’ll challenge your body moving side to side, which will help fix any muscles imbalances, and improve your strength in your lower body and ankle joints.

Yes, Lateral Lunges are a plus in my book.  I incorporate them in my personal strength routine and with my clients. Just like squats and deadlifts, lunges are a compound, strength building move. If you add this movement to your personal lower body strength training routine you will activate all the muscles in your lower body while improving the stability of your ankles, knees and hips.

You may not realize it but most of your movement on a daily basis is forward -walking, running, going up the stairs, biking etc. It is just as important to move your body lateral or side to side movements.  Moving side to side maybe a little trickier – there’s a lot more stability and mobility that comes into play especially in the knees, ankles and hips. Are you ready to add LATERAL LUNGES to your lower body routine?  Try a set of 15 without weights and practice of form and technique.
