Competitive Body Building? Not me!

Did I want to be a competitive bodybuilder nope my goals were simple - get healthy and to get my body back after having two kids. But sometimes good things fall apart so better things can come together. My turning was our move to Las Vegas, Nevada. This is where I like to say I grew up. The move took us from a small country town to a big city life.

During our transition to our new life in Vegas, everything was at a standstill. I had not lost weight in fact I had gained 10 pounds. When we finally settle in to our new apartment, I distinctly remember watching an exercise show on TV saying to myself I want to look like her. I did not know who she was other than she had an amazing body! I had to find out who she was and what she did! She, Rachel Mc Lish, was an Olympian, who was well known in the industry. She brought attention to the female bodybuilding industry by appearing on more magazine covers than any other competitor for 5 years straight. Her book Flex Appeal was road map on how to change my body! I read it from front to back and back to front and some might even say consumed. With the knowledge from her book off to the gym I went. You talk about intimidation; I was the only female there. I am sure it is quite comical me and my little weights not 100 percent sure of what I was doing. My third week at the gym I noticed another female (easy to do in a sea of men)! I was mesmerized watching her train. Her bench was amazing, I could barely do the bar and she was using 45's on each side!!! Who is this girl I had to get to know her. I introduce myself and we became the best of friends, her name Sherri Franklin. She was an amazing workout partner strong and powerful full of knowledge. Two years of dedication, determination and discipline lead me to my first bodybuilding show NPC Las Vegas Classic. I placed fifth and Sherri second among 11 competitors in the heavyweight division. Before we were uprooted again Sherri and I Went on to compete in three more bodybuilding competition it was an amazing journey together. Those two goals to get healthy and change my body lead me in a direction I never dreamed of. Completely changing my life! "

It is important to educate yourself on how to exercise and eat properly and have an accountability "buddy" who has similar goals.

There are a lot of ways working out with a partner can help you. Your partner can spot for you, and otherwise make your workout safer. They can check your form and make sure you’re not letting it slip as you fatigue. Me personally I love the motivation to train harder and that little bit of healthy competition.
