Are You Up for a Challenge? Hirt!
As a personal trainer, one of the training techniques I love using is HIRT! What is HIRT? HIRT is High-Intensity Resistance Training. HIRT is a slower, easier-on-the-joints version of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). HIRT slows things down and gives the ability to put more intention to the movement. Which allows more focus on form while still getting in a very effective heart pumping Real Women Lift strength training session. Some of my clients hate cardio sessions, this is a great way to add an effective fat burning session and is done while incorporating weight-training and strength training movements.
There are multitude of reasons to add HIRT to your workouts and it can be effective for a number of fitness goals. What are some of the benefits of HIRT?
Muscle growth: Typical rep ranges for HIRT workouts fall in the ideal rep range for building muscle.
Strength: Lifting weights is the best way to get stronger.
Muscular endurance: You get a cardio benefit as well as muscle
Gentle on your body: Unlike HIIT workouts, there aren’t any explosive or high-impact exercise in HIRT workouts.
Strengthens bones: Resistance training maintains bone density and is preventive against osteoporosis.
Reduced risk of diseases: Strength training helps prevent chronic diseases like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
How to add HIRT to your workout routine? There’s one rule! INTENSITY. You make the strength-training more intense by moving quickly, and not resting. Which means you have to have a plan. You’ll move so quickly; you won’t be able to stop to figure out what to do next. For instance, Valentine Day our rep scheme was 7 and 14. Lower Body14 reps and upper 7 reps - Standing biceps curls 7 Reps, Lateral Lunges 14 Each Side, Right into Dumbbell Chest Press for 7 Reps and 14 Reps on Lat Pull-downs. 45 Second Rest 5 Rounds! Then moved on to the next set of exercises. Each round challenging! Of I am there to supervise for proper form and a spot if needed.
